How to Make Money Teaching Music: The Music Teacher’s Manual

After reading the introduction to this book, the philosophy caught me as very disturbing. The author says anyone who can play and read music can become a teacher. He further states that teaching can be a good way of keeping occupied between gigs.
Nope – this is not how real teachers think. If anyone can teach, then why do they have music education programs in colleges? Do your kids a favor and find them a qualified teacher with a degree in music. Don’t let amateurs teach your children.
Based upon the introduction, I won’t waste my money purchasing this book! Teachers looking to purchase – I say ’stay away’!!! Not a good philosophy of teaching and music education.

Uhhhm,Joe Satriani was teaching without a degree..He Gave many famous people lessons..Seemed like it worked out pretty good in that aspect.I would have paid him the $500.00 an hr..
And whats wrong with a teacher sharing his talents with the public at gigs and etc.
He probably sounds amazing..I bet people hear the man and pay him good.A great way to advertise your skills. Seems like the type that knows how to teach performing aspects..Is music meant to be shut up in a school? NO !
I see your point for a music teacher at your kids school though..I mean you need to have the college education to teach at a public school in the first place..But my music school teacher would be the last person I would go to for lessons.LAME !
I encourage people like this to go out and share the wonderful gift of music.
I would say if you are a musician and understand the fundamentals, theory and etc. Then share this knowledge if you have a degree or not..Do not waste your talents and knowledge. Grab all of the resources available from these books and the web and get started. Music is a gift and it rules..Don’t be a pencil neck !

As a veteran private teacher and entrepreneur in the music education
business, I have encountered many obstacles in both dealing with
students and running a profitable teaching business. Steve’s book, The
Music Teacher’s Manual, provides experienced insight dealing with
handling most, if not all, of the issues faced by music teachers. He
offers valuable suggestions on topics ranging from developing a lesson
plan and execution of the lesson to managing a business and self
publishing. Congratulations Steve, on creating a valuable resource for
music teachers of all instruments.
